My brother's long hair evoked many reactions when
we were young. Because ‘boys shouldn't have long
hair’. Still, my brother followed his own path, while I
did everything I could to live up to the ideal image.
In my series My brother & I, I investigate what it
feels like to choose to not fully meet the
expectations that society places on appearance.
In today's society, there are many expectations
about what someone should look like. Opinions are
continuously being commanded and it is believed
that everyone should have the desire to fit in and to
try to meet up to the existing standard.
But what happens if you are able to ignore
expectations? Are you vulnerable, or actually
incredibly strong?
